Rainy Days

So far this winter has been what you would expect from Atlanta - mild.  No complaints there, especially when remembering the week we were literally trapped in our house last year due to snow/ice.  But, the one downside is that it has been wet.  Rain, rain, and more rain.  And it always seems to come on the weekends...During these days we look for the breaks in clouds and try to sneak outside so we don't go too stir crazy.  As you can see from the bright smiles, getting out is a good thing.

Zoo Outing

Anna, James and I headed to the zoo on MLK Day. The weather held out just long enough for us to visit the animals, dine outdoors, and take a train ride. All in all, a good day.

Me and my monkeys.  And a gorilla.
Watching the elephants - he was mesmerized.
In the past we've steered clear of the petting zoo because Anna would gag and groan about the smell.  This visit she insisted on going in and actually brushed the animals.  Either she had a cold or the cooler weather tempered the poop smells?

Sew Busy

Anyone who knows Anna knows she likes to "do crafts".  Scissors, tape, glue, glitter and stickers are her friends.  She also likes to "help" me sew (although her definition of help and mine differ.  For her, "helping" typically means taking stray scraps of fabric, thread and ribbon, and traipsing them around the house, tying them to doorknobs or taping them to paper).

For her birthday she received her very own sewing Hello Kitty machine and was eager to use it.  I convinced her to wait until after Christmas to work on her first project and it proved to be a perfect distraction for a rainy weekend morning.

After an hour of work (much of the time spent deliberating which beads and baubles to select), we created a cute tote bag.  Our next project is a pillow.  We just need another rainy day...

Lots of nothing

Our daily schedules keep the Bergstroms going at a fast pace. Busy, busy, busy, seems to be the standard mantra. During this time of year, though, we are able to slow down a bit, put away our work responsibilities, and spend some solid quality time together, which always serves as a good reminder to me of what is truly important. Over the last few weeks we spent fun times with family and friends and did, well, a whole lot of nothing. Which was great. I highly recommend it. Here's a sampling of our activities:

We went strolling in the park.

We had mohawks in the bath!

We made cake pops!

We played with a tolerant Tope.

We tried roller skating!

We rollerbladed holding a baby walker
and pink skates...

We made our own bubblegum!

Beware of the blue, uber-sour gum!!

We spent some mom-Anna time getting our nails painted.

Princesses took ornaments off the tree...

We saw the Botanical Garden lights.

Anna turned into a red-nosed reindeer

Anna got sick :(.  She was down for the count for
two days with a stomach bug.

We played Rapunzel.

Hello 2012

Our New Year's Eve celebrations sure have changed over the years. To mark the start of 2012 we headed to the park (it was a balmy 70 degrees here), took in an early dinner, and put on a fireworks "show" in our front yard. Then, Anna and James went to bed and Jason and I *barely* made it to midnight. Ok, I admit, we didn't make it to midnight, but I set an alarm so we would wake up! Like I said, oh, how times have changed...

Swinging on New Year's Eve!

Fireworks extravaganza!

Watching the "show"

Anna remembered the sparkling grape juice from last year
and insisted on "one of those fancy cups you let me use last time!"

Black-eyed peas for good luck!
